Case Study: High Tech Product Activation On Campus

Boogie Board wanted to sample their newest product to hit the campus market – “The Blackboard,” to receive the college student feedback.

The Blackboard product is a special tablet that lets you plan, sketch, and design using a technology called Liquid Crystal Paper. It’s a whole new way for students to take notes. Easy to edit, save, or erase work quickly. Nothing to charge, plug in, or turn on… students just have to use the special pen on the tablet’s screen and they’re off. The world becomes their notepad!

College Marketing Group assisted Boogie Board in the selection of 4 major US campuses for the execution of a sampling program. These campuses included:

  1. University of Wisconsin-Madison
  2. Rutgers University-New Brunswick
  3. California State University-Northridge
  4. University of Houston

For one day only at each location, Brand Ambassadors gave away FREE Blackboard devices & T-Shirts in exchange for a valid student email address. 200 total students were selected at random to receive the tablets with the promise of completing a short survey to be delivered 2-weeks later about their experience with the device. Their answers were compiled and provided the brand valuable consumer feedback about the product that will help shape future development and go-to market campus marketing strategies.

To encourage survey responses, each student who completed the task was automatically entered into a contest to win a grand prize giveaway of $5,000!
